To hire a live band in Dubai, decide the band size from your guest count and room, agree the set times, check sound and space with the venue, confirm any permit, then get a written quote with the line-up and minutes. The steps below follow that order.
1. Decide what the music is for
Most events need music for two moods: background music while guests arrive and eat, and dance music later. Write down the slots: arrival, dinner, speeches, first dance or awards, and the party. This tells you whether you need one band all night, or a duo first and a full band later.
2. Match the band size to the room
| Guests | Band | Sound and space |
|---|---|---|
| Under 60 | Acoustic duo or trio | Acoustic or one small speaker, a corner, no stage |
| 60 to 150 | Trio to 5 piece band | Small PA, 1 to 2 microphones, a monitor, at least 2 by 2 metres |
| 150 to 400 | 5 piece band or larger | Full PA, a sound engineer, a stage or riser of 3 by 2 metres or more |
| 400 and more | Full band or showband | House sound or a line array, an engineer, a full stage with power confirmed |
See acoustic duos and trios for small rooms and party bands for a dance floor.
3. Pick the style
Pop and rock covers, jazz, Arabic, Latin or soul. For a mixed guest list, ask for a band that plays in English and Arabic. Bands can also play Hindi, Spanish and French songs.
4. Agree the sets
A band usually plays two or three sets across the evening, often 40 to 45 minutes each, with recorded music or a DJ in the breaks. Arabic bands often play two sets of 30 to 45 minutes. Put the liveliest set after dinner and the speeches.
5. Check the venue
- House sound. Many hotel ballrooms have a system the band can use, which saves cost.
- Volume limit. Many ballrooms and beach clubs run a sound limiter. A loud band can be cut off mid set if nobody checks.
- Power and stage. Confirm power near the stage and that the stage fits the band.
- Outdoor venues. Beaches, yachts and desert camps need the band's own sound and power.
6. Check the permit
Hotels and licensed venues arrange an internal approval for the band. Public spaces, malls, beach clubs and outdoor venues open to the public usually need a DET event permit in Dubai, or a DCT permit in Abu Dhabi, which can take a few days longer. Private villas usually need none. Your venue or organiser confirms what applies.
7. Book early enough
Small line-ups on a normal date can often be confirmed 3 to 10 days ahead. For a bigger band, allow 6 to 10 weeks for a midweek corporate event, 5 to 8 months for a wedding in the October to March season, and 6 months or more near a public holiday. During Ramadan, music usually starts after iftar.
8. Get it in writing
Before you pay a deposit, get the number of musicians, the instruments, the sets and total minutes, sound and stage, travel, the deposit and balance dates, and the plan if a musician is ill. A video shows the style; the contract fixes the line-up.
9. Send your songs
Send a list for each slot, the songs you do not want, and any special song. A new song needs a few weeks to rehearse.
